Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Kell.
Hi Leslie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My life as an artist ignited around the age of nine. I can scarcely remember a time that wasn’t devoted to creative pursuits. As I look back, I realize I’ve also been a photographer for most of my life. I began my career as a painter and illustrator, eventually transitioning into graphic art and design. Over time, I discovered how to weave these disciplines together—blending my design sensibilities with photography and fine art.
In late 2008, I created my first digital composition using my original photography and Adobe Creative Suite. That moment marked a return to fine art and a turning point in my journey. No longer creating for clients, I found a new freedom to explore my own visions. I quickly realized the possibilities were endless, and years later, I am still chasing that elusive perfect image—fusing light, space, and imagination into immersive visual experiences.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not exactly. As a digital artist in the early days of the medium, one of my first major hurdles was the legitimacy of the art form itself. Digital art was often dismissed as less authentic, and I frequently found myself having to defend its value and educate audiences about the creative depth it offers. That constant need to justify my work planted early seeds of imposter syndrome—was it really “fine art” if it wasn’t created with traditional tools?
Even now, that feeling can still creep in, especially as the digital art world grows more complex and competitive. Keeping up with rapidly evolving technology adds another layer of pressure. But over time, I’ve come to embrace my unique process and perspective. Each challenge, whether internal or external, has pushed me to grow—not just as an artist, but as a creative who continues to shape and redefine what art can be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a digital artist who blends photography, design, and visual storytelling to create immersive and layered compositions. My work often explores the complexities of adjacent realities and shifting perceptions—those moments when the familiar transforms into something dreamlike or symbolic. Through carefully constructed environments, I invite viewers into spaces that feel simultaneously real and imagined.
I specialize in creating images using my designs and original photography as the foundation. Each piece is crafted using a technique I’ve developed over years of experimentation—one that merges structure and spontaneity, intention and discovery. These compositions are more than images; they’re visual experiences meant to spark reflection and emotional connection.
My style is optimistic and deeply inspired by the natural world. Light, texture, and symmetry play central roles in the work, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that resonates with viewers. I’m proud to say my body of work has become highly recognizable for its distinct voice and original approach.
What sets me apart is not only the uniqueness of my process but also the way I’ve woven together decades of experience in painting, illustration, design, and photography into a singular artistic vision. I’m most proud of the creative path I’ve carved for myself—one that continues to evolve. The most exciting part is knowing I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible. There’s so much more to explore and share.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I truly enjoy working one-on-one with collectors to create artwork that feels personal and intentional. Whether it’s a custom commission or selecting from my existing collections, I love helping clients find—or create—a piece that resonates with their space and style. One of the unique aspects of my work is that it’s fully scalable and adaptable, meaning it can be tailored to fit almost any environment, including narrow columns, unconventional niches, or large statement walls.
My artwork can be printed on a wide range of materials, offering the flexibility to complement different design aesthetics and settings. To make the process even more seamless, I offer exclusive virtual hangings: with just a photo and the dimensions of a space, I can digitally place various artwork options so clients can visualize exactly how a piece will look in their environment before making a decision. It’s a collaborative and creative process, and one I’m passionate about.
For those looking to support my work, connecting through social media, sharing my art, visiting exhibitions, or simply reaching out with interest or ideas for collaboration all make a meaningful impact. I’m always open to new opportunities and conversations.
