Illusion And Reality

I’ve created the image using photos of palms, prisms, and a Giant Owl butterfly in the patterns of the design. This piece represents the golden ratio (fibonacci) which all shapes come back to this mathematical formula. ‘As above, so below’, connects heaven and earth. The spiral ‘spirals’ up to connect the physical self to the Higher Self.

The Glinting Edges

This design represents a rose and the spiral pattern of the bloom. I’ve used photos of a red leafy plant, dew drops on grasses, and a Fritillary butterfly to create the composition. The Fibonacci spiral represents the expansion of nature and the universe, reflecting the magical inter-connectedness of our micro- and macro- cosmos. For centuries, this knowledge was considered sacred, a way of understanding the deeper beauty and spirituality in life.

When Then Is Here

equilibrium which balances chaotic energy and brings it to an equilibrium It represents the ultimate and perfect condition wherein the movement of energy comes to a state of absolute equilibrium, and therefore absolute stillness and nothingness. Photos are of dewy bamboo in Wimberley and a Paper Kite butterfly.

Mingle And Blur

The pattern in this design is based on the star tetrahedron also known as the Grid of Life. Stated most basically, the tetrahedron facilitates balance and stability when we embark on spiritual exploration. I’ve used photos of a house of mirrors and cypress branches with an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail perched in the upper right.

The Near And Far

I love the intimate look at the radiating stems and patterns they create. The seeds evoke a sense of anticipation of their imminent flight on the next breeze to spread new life near and far. I’ve integrated the Fruit of Life symbol which is comprised of thirteen equal-sized circles. It represents the sacred pattern of the universe and the origin of all creation.

Reveal The Sublime

This design uses photos of a white hydrangea bloom, yellow mum, and a southern dogface butterfly. The overlay is a hexagram, or a 6-pointed star. It is made from two opposite triangles which represent the masculine and feminine, earth and sky, interlocking in perfect harmony. The hex-agram reminds us of our place in the world, halfway between earth and sky, and at the epicen-ter of our own personal power.

Approach The Tipping

The Torus Yantra (Hypnotic eye) is a core level sacred geometry form. This image graphs the process by which all energy, when it is correctly aligned, continually is cycling, up and down and around, between spirit and matter. This is a process that occurs in all objects in existence, eventually. An object can go only so far in its ascent/descent before the opposite polarity pulls it back to itself.

Now Is There

The base drawing is of a radial succulent plant. This piece uses photos of an agave, swallowtail butterfly, colored glass. I’ve overlaid the Seed of Life symbol, with its seven interconnected circles, symbolizing the interconnection of life on Earth and universal existence.

Give Grace to the Memories

Vestige refers to something that is no longer present but its effects remain. The most enduring evidence in our existence is presence of water.

Allow The Current

As the ever-changing currents flow, the lily bloom continually to rises to the surface. As long as it remains connected, it can adjust and extend its reach with each shift. Perhaps this can inspire us to hold fast to ourselves and allow the water to lift us to new levels.

Let It Pull You Home

The light reflected in the waves is coming from an unknown source making the viewer the lightsource.

Anchor Your Heart

I listened to the audio book “Braving the Wilderness”by Brené Brown, twice. There was a passage in it that spoke to standing firm in your self, while still allowing the new ideas to help you grow. It kinda stuck with me. So much of the imagery in this series is inverted or fragmented. I think it helps to look at things from a new angle. I realize that there will be tendency to  display this image up-side-down. Which is ok, whatever speaks to you... But be aware if the palm trees are upright, the birds are inverted. There is always a flip side.

Inspire New Sight

The solitary bloom, a symbol of individuality, rises impossibly from the wave and inspires wonder. The reflection is fragmented on the surface of the water and shows us not everything is as it seems.

Sing The Collective

A Saffron Finch perches lightly on the surface, underscoring fragility and a lightness of being. At any moment he will take flight leaving just a ripple of evidence he was ever there.

Connecting the Hush

The butterfly that lights on the water’s surface underscores fragility and represents a lightness of being.

Water can remind us that we are all connected to a something larger and even the smallest gesture can make a difference.

The Shimmering Not

Beach photo was taken on Galveston Island at Christmas time. I’ve used dewey redbud blossoms and lone Goldfinch in the sheer flowing shapes.

Brace For Fragile Artifacts

The visual of sheer curtains in an open window has always been ethereal in my mind’s eye. The imagery encourages us to drift in and out of the present lending to the dreamlike quality of the artwork. Tender Slivers Of Our Soul

I used an old family photo of a my great grandmother’s farmhouse in Indiana. The flowers are bi-colored irises mixed with ferns. The Swallowtail butterflies have always been special to me and remind me of my mother.

The Shadowed Fringes

This piece features photos of delicate prickly pear blooms. Reminding us that even the spiny cacti can offer a moment of delicate beauty, even for just an instant.

The Momentary

Daisies often represent youth, hope and new beginnings. Momentary thoughts that fade and shift out of focus. These ideals are difficult to hold and can retreat in an instant. Much like a hummingbird’s appearance, here and then gone. Together they bring messages of joy and renewal and a reminder to live in the moment. Do you recall this moment? Does it conjure a retreating memory?

We Will Bend In Our Perceptions

Strangely, this piece only uses only two photos. The pillars are from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.

Wake To The Illusion

I wrote the first four lines of the prose for this collection several years ago on a trip to Colorado with my soul sisters. I didn’t know at the time what would come. I collected the pieces and planted them. Sleep, spread, leap. Sometimes they take root and bloom. Photos were taken in Glenwood Springs Colorado at the height of the autumnal color during the afore mentioned trip. Be sure to look for the colorful Troupials in the folds...

Our Former Selves

There is an old folklore saying that, “When a cardinal appears in your yard, it’s a visitor from heaven.” Since this series is about past and present and the melding of our perceptions and memories, it makes sense (to me) to welcome other worldly visitors into the imagery. Photos were taken in Madrid and Segovia Spain.

The pyramid symbolizes a mountain that has risen from the waters of creation. They are a symbol of secret and lost knowledge, of things unknown. As these multifaceted structures play across the horizon they promise dualities we can only imagine... because there is always another side that remains unseen.

In A Strange Game

This piece features a design of partially submerged pyramids. The photos are from the gulf coast shores of Florida, downtown skyscrapers in Dallas and underwater scenes from an Alaska aquarium.

Can You See Me Now

The photos for this one were taken on the banks of Cypress Creek in Wimberley, Texas. The light streaming through the treetops and rushing water from the previous night’s storm were a powerful combination. The feeling was one of hope and renewal and a little regret. The surfacing turtle photo was taken at the Cabela’s aquarium. Yep, I went to Cabela’s for a photoshoot.

The Ghosts Of Hope

The photos in the pyramids are of “Cloud Gate” (aka the Bean) in Chicago. This series of photos has been a challenge to work with with, but it seemed to fit this design, so I did my best.

What You Knew

The images in this piece were captured during travel in Alaska and Pensacola. Almost as far apart as you can get on the continent and yet they to come together in a consciousness of recollections.

I Asked Myself

This piece seems kind of sad and hopeful all in the same moment. Maybe it’s the koi rising to the surface as the balloons float out of sight. Or is it the ripples that suggest upward momentum, or are the piramids retreating? Rock photos are from Sedona. Beach is a winter one in Galveston at Christmas. Balloon shots were taken in Austin at the 2014 SXSW Light Garden.

We Hear The Voices

I tried several photos in the background of this that just weren’t satisfying my vision. When I dropped in the clouds it clicked for me. I’ve added photos of a Red Admiral and a couple Heart-spotted Heliconian (Tiger Longwing) butterflies perched on the trees.

While I love the moody blues of this pieces, I’ve also created a more colorful version of this design: “We Blink in the Brightness”.

While I like the moody blue vibe of that composition, I couldn’t resist the blissful colors of this adaptation.

The patterns of water and reflections have always captured my imagination. This piece uses photos of aspen trees taken in Colorado, Paper Kite butterflies and underwater textures overlaying sunrise shots.

Where The Trees Become A Forest

I created the texture for the trees using a water fall and reflecting it several times to create a textured pattern. This is the first time I’ve used this process, I can not wait to do more! The shiny beach shots are from Pensacola. If you look you’ll see dolphins in the waves and sea birds in the background.

The Elusive Light

I’ve used photos from Pedernales State Park and Pensacola. The bark in the trees are Aspens from Colorado. So you could say this one stretches across the US. I’m always happy when I can work in some bubbles and a hummingbird too!

The Singular Become Many

As with other Lumen artworks, the light source and the resulting shadows drive the design. But this design has dualities that represent both reflections and roots. This piece is dripping with light and ripples and droplets. Featured photographs were taken at Hamilton Pool in the Texas Hill Country. There are koi in the foreground and a great blue heron lifting off from the waterfall.

This piece features the graceful Pennybacker Bridge across Lake Austin. Photography was captured at various location in Austin including the Central Library, Blanton Museum, Austin City Hall and features our own Mexican Free-tailed bats.

One More Day

Our first day in Madrid we wandering into a crypt on a Sunday morning. Truly an enchanted experience. The photos for this piece were taken at Almudena Cathedral and Crypt.The floor is a photos of captured rain water in the leaf impressions adorning concrete blocks in the pedestrian walkways. I hope this piece will touch a space deep in the soul and create a sense of place.

Wings Spread Bright

I’ve used themes of water, light and reflection to capture that instant of sensation when these elements slide into each other and produce an otherness. The juxtaposing of the aspens and succulent blooms create a surreal landscape and offers an escape, if only for a moment.

The shapes and forms of flowing landscape have always intrigued me. Not only do I love the compositional opportunities, but the rhythm of the textures and shapes offer such storytelling riches.

Come Along

These images seek the shadowed realities that can not be seen until we reach the apex and look back, revealing the echoes of lifetimes playing across the topography. It’s in the space that lies in-between that we find where we belong.

Growing Day By Day

This one seemed like a mystery to be uncovered from the beginning. The botanical landscape featuring a single water lilly bloom evokes a sense of the unreal as the sky indicates twilight and dawn at the same time. I’ve used photos of palms and cacti to create the forms of the flowing hills. I can feel the tension in this piece between the light and the dark, the rain and the sun, and the start and stop.

Into The Mystic

I’ve used a progression of arches and filled them with photos of all stages of discovery. The path begins with silvery and bare branches and as the mist lifts, it reveals a sunlight drenched passage. As with most of my work, water and light play an important role in creating this visual catharsis. You’ll find a little creature in the lower right.

Born Before The Wind

I’ve used photos of all stages of transformation to create this visual journey. As the pathway slowly winds around, it becomes lusher as it moves towards the light. As with most of my work, water and light play an important role as well as the little creatures in the lower left pond.
