We’re led through the woods
Where the trees become a forest
And the singular become many

As we step into the light
We’re born from the shadows
We blink in the brightness

We hear the voices
Echoing in the canopy of memories
And the elusive light unites us

Lumen is the measure of brightness from a light source. The patterns of these pieces are subject to the source and brightness of the light. The angle of that light changes constantly, altering what we see. In a moment of uncertainty, the most reliable view is found within the light, or rather, within ourselves. This series also explores individuality as it relates to the larger community and our place in the natural world and how our unique light can affect those around us.

Through The Woods

The first four designs of the Lumen Collection seem to have taken on a seasonal theme. This one declared itself to be Winter. Photography features male Cardinals. Location photos are from Alaska and Washington state.

Into The Light

The first four designs of the Lumen Collection seem to have taken on a seasonal theme. This one declared itself to be Spring. Photography features parakeets and dewy redbud blossoms.

I Hear You

The first four designs of the Lumen Collection seem to have taken on a seasonal theme. This one declared itself to be Autumnal. Photography features both male and female Lesser Goldfinches. Location photos are from Colorado and Washington state.

We Blink In The Brightness

The patterns of water and reflections have always captured my imagination. This piece uses photos of Crepe Myrtles and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterflies with underwater textures overlaying sunrise shots. This is a more colorful version of “Born from the Shadows”. While I like the moody blue vibe of that composition, I couldn’t resist the blissful colors of this adaptation.

I See You

The first four designs of the Lumen Collection seem to have taken on a seasonal theme. This one declared itself to be Summer. Photography features Carolina Chickadees and water gardens.

The Singular Become Many

As with other Lumen artworks, the light source and the resulting shadows drive the design. But this design has dualities that represent both reflections and roots. This piece is dripping with light and ripples and droplets. Featured photographs were taken at Hamilton Pool in the Texas Hill Country. There are koi in the foreground and a great blue heron lifting off from the waterfall.

I Feel Your Light

The patterns of water and reflections have always captured my imagination. This piece uses photos of aspen trees taken in Colorado, Paper Kite butterflies and underwater textures overlaying sunrise shots.

We Hear The Voices

I tried several photos in the background of this that just weren’t satisfying my vision. When I dropped in the clouds it clicked for me. I’ve added photos of a Red Admiral and a couple Heart-spotted Heliconian (Tiger Longwing) butterflies perched on the trees.

The Elusive Light

I’ve used photos from Pedernales State Park and Pensacola. The bark in the trees are Aspens from Colorado. So you could say this one stretches across the US. I’m always happy when I can work in some bubbles and a hummingbird too!

Born From The Shadows

The patterns of water and reflections have always captured my imagination. This piece uses photos of Crepe Myrtles and Fritillary butterflies with underwater textures. While I love the moody blues of this pieces, I’ve also created a more colorful version of this design: “We Blink in the Brightness”.

Where The Trees Become A Forest

I created the texture for the trees using a water fall and reflecting it several times to create a textured pattern. This is the first time I’ve used this process, I can not wait to do more! The shiny beach shots are from Pensacola. If you look you’ll see dolphins in the waves and sea birds in the background.
