Hold Me In Your Thoughts

Raindance Collection

19 x 19 mixed media: archival inks on canvas, acrylic paint, steel

Hold Me In Your Thoughts -by Leslie Kell, artist

These works were created at the end of a long and devastating drought in central Texas, hence the name: “Raindance” Collection. They use photos taken primarily in the Seattle area, where it actually rains.

The iconic totems that are found in the Pacific Northwest represent a prayer for rain. The hummingbird totem symbolizes joy and accomplishing that which seems impossible. The imagery is metallic and the rain is cool and electric, symbolizing the long wait for relief.

The feathers are from a Native American headdress. The silver color is pulled from a shot of a tinsel art installation in Olympic Sculpture Park. There are also details from the entrance to the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

The titles for the Raindance Collection are inspired by the lyrics of "Keep me in your Heart for a While" by Warren Zevon. This song was written near the end of his battle with cancer. It's a lovely and powerful prayer.
